Destiny of the Doctors

N.B. there might (or might not) be spoilers in this article!

In retrospect, given Destiny of the Doctors features Anthony Ainley’s final performance as the Master, perhaps we should imagine this directly precedes the events that lead to his trial on Skaro and transformation into a kind of ectoplasmic slime.

Admittedly, judging Destiny of the Doctors easily without access to a copy of the video game disc and booting up (shudders) an old copy of Windows, amounts only to the fifteen minutes or so of footage included as an extra on the Survival DVD, but I thought it was worth including if only because of Anthony Ainley.

Of his early appearances in Doctor Who, it was actually Ainley’s performances as Tremas and the Portreeve that had greatly impressed me. In these few fragments, as in his previous appearance Survival, we see how much he relished playing the Doctor’s own Moriarty.

I can’t claim ever to have played the game. Indeed before this the only Doctor Who video game I had played was Doctor Who and the Mines of Terror on a BBC microcomputer in the mid-80’s. (Oddly, this would also have been my first experience of the Sixth Doctor.)

In truth, I probably never will play it, but those clips of the Master at least are fun.
