What’s perhaps most striking about the first series of twenty-first century Doctor Who is just how consistent it is.
The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances probably sneaks it as the strongest story and subsequent episode Boom Town may well be the weakest, but there’s not much in it.

As I mentioned in my previous post, it is a series I know well, having watched it multiple times since 2005, but I still found myself pleasantly surprised how well the satire of The Long Game has endured — indeed, for me, holding up better than some of the slightly dated gameshow fun of Bad Wolf‘s return visit to Satellite Five.
But from Rose to The Parting of the Ways, there hasn’t really been a duff episode. In that regard, it’s as good a season / series of Doctor Who as we’ve ever had.
It’s almost as if Russell T Davies had been waiting his whole life to write it!
