The Sarah Jane Adventures: Series Four
“They Call It ‘The Ealing Triangle'”

N.B. there might (or might not) be spoilers in this article!

It amused the hell out of me how, as soon as we learned Luke was heading off to Oxford, he started wearing a posh-boy scarf. When he returns in Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith, he’s still wearing it. Talk about broad strokes!

“Nothing’s been normal for me.”

Sarah Jane, Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith, Part One

High-fallutin’, visual metonymy aside, after a slightly underwhelming opener, Series Four of The Sarah Jane Adventures is a series that gets stronger as it goes along. Its peak might be Clyde and Rani’s near-two hander The Empty Planet, but I do have a soft spot for the cram-everything-in-and-hope-it-all sticks approach of Lost in Time.

There’s a sadness in knowing Elisabeth Sladen fell ill shortly after this series was broadcast. One tiny consolation is that there are still three more adventures to enjoy.
