N.B. there might (or might not) be spoilers in this article!
Torchwood Series Two continues the wild, uneven ride begun in Everything Changes — some good, some bad, some good and bad at the same time.
“Sometimes I f*cking hate you.”
Rhys, Adrift
If anything, I’d remembered even less of it going in than Series One. I remembered Tosh and Owen dying, but not how or, indeed in Owen’s case, when. I’d forgotten that Jim Robinson was the one who shot Owen, that there was a half-decent origins story; I’d forgotten even that Jack’s brother was in it — and that was more than one episode!
I hadn’t forgotten Martha was in it, nor that she was the best thing in it when she was in it! But I had also forgotten that some of the later episodes were pretty good, among them a couple of Chibbers’ contributions — Fragments and, especially, Adrift.
Despite the inconsistency, I find I’m going to miss these visits to the Hub. I know there’s still Children of Earth and Miracle Day to come, but they’ll be a different experience from the ‘will it be good, will it be terrible?’ anticipation you get when watching these episodic first couple of series.
And when I started on Series Two back in January with the desperately underwhelming Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, I wouldn’t have thought that possible.
Somehow, though, I’m still 15 years behind!
