Greeks Bearing Gifts

N.B. there might (or might not) be spoilers in this article!

In Greeks Bearing Gifts, we finally get to learn a bit more about Tosh as Torchwood goes all What Women Want and, thanks to Mary’s alien pendant, Tosh learns more about what her co-workers think of her than she would have liked.

“I’m not your bloody hound.”

Mary, Greeks Bearing Gifts

The whole mind-reading-with-clearly-expressed-thoughts trope always seems a bit silly, but I do like that Tosh can’t read Jack’s mind — and that he knows she was ‘scrabbling around in there’. His face when he she says it was like he was dead might be the best moment in the episode.

All the Gwen and Owen stuff gets tiresome quickly, though.

Elsewhere, there’s some non-too-subtle sexy femme fatale acting with plenty of added smoking from Daniella Denby-Ashe. I do like how she continues to use the egg cup as an ashtray — that’s a nice touch.

Greeks Bearing Gifts isn’t the best Torchwood episode thus far, but it’s not the worst either, although I couldn’t help but laugh when Tosh asked Mary how she knew about Torchwood. Perhaps Mary works one for of their branded merch suppliers? There’s enough of it! We’re seven episodes in and it might be harder to find someone in Cardiff who doesn’t know about them.
