Season Three remains the longest season in Doctor Who‘s history: clocking in at a whopping 45 episodes encompassing ten serials.

It was a season that yet again showcased the breadth of Doctor Who‘s storytelling scope with morality tales, Greek mythology, epic space opera, serious historical commentary and even whimsical balladry amongst its ilk. Not everything that was tried worked, although with so many episodes missing from the archive, not everything can be judged fairly, but there were plenty more hits than misses.
It was a time of change behind and in front of the cameras with producers, script editors and companions leaving and, as we now know, plans to change the lead actor himself were being considered. I know that that particular revelation is just around the corner, so, for now, as I still have couple of First Doctor tales to enjoy, I’m not going to get too far ahead of myself.
